DAY 13 | 21 Day Fast | Back to the Basics

BACK TO THE BASICS

Hello to my FFF’s (Fellow Fasting Friends), let’s get back to the basics.

“I ran a route, my teammate gave me a great throw, God took care of the rest, I will give all the glory to God. I still don’t know what happened.” This is a quote from Stefon Diggs of the Minnesota Vikings after he made the winning touchdown last Sunday afternoon - which is being called the "Minneapolis Miracle." Even if you were pulling for the New Orleans Saints, I encourage you to let that wound heal and read on.

I believe we can learn something from his statement and leave the game for the record books. I have never gone through the training that an NFL player has, but I think if I were to look into the regimen they go through, I would not be surprised that this player made such a play. It’s nice to see him give glory to God, but he put in a lot of prep work to position himself for success.

I would encourage you to read  Matthew 6, but I want you to notice specifically verses 2, 5, 16:

Verse 2: “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full."

Verse 5: "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full."

Verse 16: "When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full."

These verses bring out three practices that every Christian should do to set himself up for success: give, pray, and fast. The purpose of these three is to lead us into righteousness; they are not the ticket to heaven. The only ticket is through Jesus Christ, but once our ticket has been punched he wants us to become part of his team and live a life of righteousness.

During these 21 days of fasting we are getting back to the basics of a Christian walk and focusing on prayer, putting aside food and giving in the breakthrough offering. It’s important to start 2018 with a time of refocusing on the basics. Life has a way of sidetracking us from what is most important, and maybe 2017 had some distraction for you. I encourage you to use this time to get re-aligned with HIS game plan.

Also, if you notice in this chapter after each of these three basic Christian characteristics, it states that your Father will reward you. Now rewards are nice but the motivation is righteousness not rewards. The touchdowns will come, and many times we will be scratching our heads wondering, “How did that happen?" Those victories, those rewards come because of the foundational practices we hold onto:  give, pray, and fast.

I encourage you to pursue righteousness and practice it before God not men (Matthew 6:1). Also, we will have the opportunity to give in the breakthrough offering next weekend- be praying about your gift. I truly want you on board because you’re my teammate, and the more we work together and get on the same page, greater victories are in store for all of us and after those victories, may God receive all the glory.

Be Blessed My FFF’s!
