PAIN TO PROGRESS
Growing up in a small town, I used to take my bike everywhere, to the store, park, pool, and even the river. I remember one day my friends and I decided to make a bike jump. It seemed like a great idea, until I hit the jump and my handlebars turned sideways in the air. Tough landing! I understood pain at that point.
There are many different types of pain and we all experience it. Physical (like I experienced), emotional, mental, and spiritual. There’s self-inflicted pain (like I experienced) and pain we experience because we live in a broken world. Fasting can be painful too can’t it? Denying the flesh can cause real pain, but I know if I push through the pain there will be progress on the other side.
Fasting is a choice to go through pain for the benefit of getting closer to Jesus. Think about this verse. Hebrews 12:2 says, “For the joy set before him he [Jesus] endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Jesus endured the pain of the cross because of the “joy” set before him. Jesus understood that on the other side of the pain of the cross was the joy of having the curse of sin broken. The joy of the result outweighed the pain He experienced. The same is true as we continue in this fasting journey. Think about how your pain will turn to progress on the other side. Stay strong, it will be worth it!
