Greetings Awesome People!
Welcome to the home stretch of our 21 day fast! We have only a few days left. I am so excited for these last few days in the fast as I believe that you will begin to experience breakthrough in areas that you have been praying for during the last 15 days. I am looking for breakthrough, aren't you!? Are you expecting it?! I am!
At New Life in Jamestown - we are beginning the process of officially launching. You may ask, “What does it mean to launch?” It means we will start Sunday mornings, small groups, practical outreach events, possibly a missions giving initiative, and so much more. We are so excited for what is coming! God is on the move! We have been praying with you all believing for God to do great things! As a focal point for the Jamestown campus we have prayed for our city, but more specifically for New Beginnings. We have been praying that we would have opportunity to tell people about the New Beginning they can have in Christ and actively show them our lives. Why show them? The old adage says, “A picture is worth a thousand words”. Well what better way to tell people about a New Beginning than to paint them a picture of your life and all the change that has happened since beginning a relationship with Christ.
As we have been praying for New Beginnings the Lord has been teaching me what it means to intercede for people that I have been meeting all around their community. I had to learn first what intercession meant. I went back to one of my old textbooks from college. The word intercede in the Old Testament is found 46 times and has a few meanings. Here as listed: to encounter, to meet, to put pressure on, and to plead. One example you can find is Isaiah 53:12. In the New Testament we find two examples of intercession and a few, similar meanings. Here as listed: to appeal to, to plead for, to make intercession, to pray. You can see the word used in two familiar passages. One is found in Romans 8:26-27 and, in short, says that the Spirit himself intercedes for us that words cannot express. In 1 Timothy 2:1 it says this, “I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone.” As you continue through chapter 2 you see that it extends to those in authority as well. No specifics to which or what positions of authority, but all authority. This includes friends, family, and others surrounding us. Our prayers are instrumental in bringing others into a relationship with Christ. It is not only our responsibility but it is an honor/privilege to pray for people.
The Lord has been teaching me how to intercede more effectively for those around me. We pray for God’s presence to invade their space, to bring revival to us and our city. We also pray on their behalf that God would extend mercy, grace, and show His goodness to them because that is how man comes unto salvation (Romans 2:4). As I do that, the Spirit gives me insight on exactly how to pray for that person. I can pray what I know to pray, but the Spirit then begins to help me intercede for those around me in more specific ways. Intercession is so vitally important when praying for people you know. Why? Intercession goes beyond the 1-minute prayer for them. Please here me, that 1-minute prayer is so much greater than none at all. And sometimes that is all that needs to be said. But God has shown me through practicing this aspect of my prayer life, being intercession, that I feel greatly burdened for that person. As I intercede for them, I must find them at some point in my week so I can ask if the circumstances in their lives have changed. I feel so burdened that after praying for God to reveal Himself to those people I know, by name, that I look for any opportunity to partner with God in actively telling or showing people who Christ is. He has been showing me that one of the greatest things I can do for a person not having a relationship with Christ is to get on my face before the Lord and intercede on their behalf. Let God burden your heart for those who walk through life around you. Keep interceding! Begin to look for them each week and watch God begin a work in their lives! And be ready to tell them about Christ! The opportunities will come! And breakthrough is coming!
