People are always asking about trust. How do I know I can trust someone? How do I trust God? How far should my trust go? These are all questions we ask ourselves when it comes to trusting, and yes every one of us has dealt with trust issues at some point in our lives.
Trust is defined as a firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something. My go to verse for trust is Proverbs 3:5-8
“5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. 7 Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil. 8 Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones.
This clearly puts it that trust comes from Godly wisdom. Most trust issues arise usually because someone in the course of a relationship has made a bad decision at some point. They didn’t use wisdom. I think that is why God is very strongly saying, “don’t depend on your own understanding.” Another way put, don’t think you know it all.
I have many times in situations come to a point that instead of really going to God for the wisdom I need, I rely on my own skill set, when God probably has a better picture of the whole situation. This is why hearing the voice of God is so important.
We need to trust God’s wisdom more than our own, Psalm 111:10-11 says:
“10 Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. 11 All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom. Praise him forever!”
His voice comes from his word, it comes from daily being in his presence, it comes from living out what he asks of us. To obey is to grow. He gave me a brain to use, but I’m still only human. Some of the smartest people out there still don’t have wisdom, because their trust is in their own understanding, they don’t put their trust in God.
So trust God, let your understanding come from him. Don’t trust in your own strength, trust in his and as his word says even your body will have healing and strength!
