The Spirit Filled Life | Helper

BY PASTOR JUSTIN WERVEN | BEULAH CAMPUS PASTOR

In our house we have some great helpers. Recently we got our entire family together and decided to shovel a driveway. With so many hands and shovels, it didn’t take much work to get the entire driveway clean. We had a driveway shoveling party! It was great. Some help can be more helpful than others, but none is better than the help the Holy Spirit offers.

Romans 8 is one of my favorite chapters in all of Scripture. Romans 8:26 says, “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness.”

“Helps” is a complex word that literally means “to take hold of.” It’s translated in a couple different ways. First, the Holy Spirit helps us in our weaknesses by working together with us. Secondly, He also works on behalf of us as our intercessor. The Holy Spirit joins with us to help and empower us to be victors rather than victims in our circumstances, but also works apart from us to intervene and take action on our behalf. When we are helpless, the Holy Spirit is truly our “helper.”

One of the most powerful ways the Holy Spirit helps is in our prayer life. Romans 8:26 finishes by reading, “We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.”

There have been many times I haven’t known how to pray, but when I pray in the Spirit I know I’m praying the perfect prayer. It’s our reliance on the Holy Spirit that will help and empower us to live a victorious life in Jesus.

May our prayer be today, “Holy Spirit Help!”

God Bless,
