If you have ever heard this song, it’s now running through your mind on replay, over and over again. And yes- you are welcome; you now will not be able to get that silly song out of your head for the rest of the day.

Today I want bring to your attention the words of Jesus from Matthew 6:25 ,“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?“

Worry- it is common issue we all deal with. Are you dealing with an impossible situation in your life? A relationship that has broken down? A serious health issue or impossible challenge at work? It can be a real challenge to not allow these issues to be at the forefront of your mind. Jesus instructs you not to worry, and if he gave you this instruction that means there has to be a way for you to live above this all-consuming problem that has fallen into your lap. Jesus directly addresses this issue of worry, so let’s take a look at how to overcome this common problem.

First off, realize there is a difference between stress and worry. Stress is dealing with real issues today, situations that need to be worked through. We all have stress and to a certain degree we need stress in our life. Think of a guitar, without a certain amount of stress the strings could not do what they were created to do. If we have no stress in our lives it generally means we are doing nothing. If we have too much stress we are out of tune and not in harmony with those other strings around us.

Worry, in its simplest form, is allowing our mind to focus on something in the future that may or may not happen, and we are expecting the worst to happen. This prevents us from dealing with the things we need to be focused on today, which is no benefit to us or Jesus.

I encourage you to read all of  Matthew 6- you will find the first part deals with helping the needy, then it focuses on prayer, talks about fasting, depositing treasure’s in heaven and lastly deals with worry. So the recipe to eliminate worry is to start off with a healthy portion of helping others, mix in some prayer to get the right consistency, add a fast to bring it to a nice balance-  mix these all together in any human at 98 degrees and the end result is treasures in Heaven with no worries. I know this recipe sounds too simple but give it a try, you might not be just singing that silly song that is still running thru your head….you actually might be living it.
