One of the biggest comforts of serving Jesus is the fact that God never grows tired or weary. Our physical bodies need rest, but God doesn’t. I remember a few times I’ve been so exhausted that I slept weird on my arm and cut off blood circulation. When I woke up I honestly thought I was paralyzed. I couldn’t feel or move my arm. After a few seconds of panic, movement and feeling returned and all was well. What a strange experience.

Have you ever been weary? Today is day 10 of the 21 Day Fast. Feelings of fatigue may have passed for some, but I know I still struggle. I grow weary in fasting because my flesh wants to eat whatever it wants. Weariness can be defined as being exhausted in strength, exhausted in endurance, no patience, little tolerance, maybe not finding pleasure in much of anything. I believe that for every person, weariness is something we face.

The truth is we live in the most advanced time in human history, yet we see weariness in unprecedented levels. It’s manifested as despair, depression, and hopelessness. People are weary and looking for answers for their problems. It’s not really life, however, that makes us weary; it’s the way we handle life. I like to say it this way. I can’t always control my circumstances, but I can control how I respond to my circumstances.

This is why I love scripture so much. It provides all the answers we need to live a successful life. Paul understood weariness and he addressed it in his letter to the Galatians. In Galatians 6:9 he says, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

There may be many reasons to grow weary but we can hold to the promise of scripture that if we stay the course and press forward, we will reap a harvest. I don’t deny the reality of my situation, I deny the finality of my situation. In Jesus we win! As long as we don’t give up we will reap a harvest.

Declare this:

I WILL NOT GROW WEARY IN DOING GOOD, FOR AT THE PROPER TIME I WILL REAP A HARVEST BECAUSE I WILL NOT GIVE UP!

Stay the course, don’t grow weary, and don’t give up!
