In the month of September, we are learning about choices in Kid’s Church. Our memory verse for the month comes from Joshua 24:15, which says,
“But suppose you don’t want to serve him. Then choose for yourselves right now whom you will serve. You can choose the gods your people served east of the Euphrates River. Or you can serve the gods of the Amorites. After all, you are living in their land. But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”
The Israelites were living in a foreign land filled with foreign gods. It was tempting to leave the One True God and serve fake gods. During this time, Joshua, Israel’s leader drew a line in the sand and decided that no matter what he and his household would remain faithful and serve the Lord. This wasn’t the easiest choice to make, but Joshua knew that it was the right choice to make.
Just like Joshua, the most important decision we will to make is to decide to follow the Lord. This may seem like an elementary thought, but it is a decision that we have to make every day of our lives.
There are days in my life where I am surrounded with thoughts that leaving Jesus would make my life easier, however I have to take those thoughts captive and recognize that thought is a lie from Satan himself. I have to pick myself up, know what I know and continue to go after the One True God.
At the end of the day, we have choices to make. These choices will affect our lives and our eternity. Will you choose to serve the Lord or serve man? Make the choice today to stand firm and serve God, this will be a choice that you will not regret.
