DAY 9 | 21 Day Fast | A Daily Renewal

Good morning fellow fasters!  As I write this, it is -20 and cloudy outside. My flesh thinks it could use a hot caramel roll or some white chicken chili! But, I sip a cup of unsweetened herbal tea and keep telling my flesh who the boss really is! That’s what I want to talk to you about today: making a renewed commitment DAILY to fasting.

Daniel 1:8 says that “Daniel MADE UP his mind not to defile himself with the food and wine of the King.” The NIV says, “Daniel RESOLVED." The New King James puts it this way, ”Daniel PURPOSED.” These words often point to a life changing decision of the will. You made an original commitment when you joined together with the rest of us in this 21 day fast. Now you must make a DAILY choice to continue on. You don’t have the power to obey if you don’t make a CHOICE to do so. CHOICE involves all of your personality. Your will makes a choice based on what your mind knows and when your emotions are stirred toward that goal.

A week ago, fasting was something new and maybe for some, exciting. A new challenge. A new goal. The second week sometimes becomes a bit harder because now it’s something we might be tired of. True, hunger pangs should have lessened but a lot of us are EMOTIONAL eaters.  We don’t eat because we are hungry- we eat because of stress, or anger, or fear, or just being tired.

I encourage you to look at the reasons you started this fast. What are the rewards/answers you are asking God for? Keep that in front of you…your purpose, your goal. I keep mine on my bathroom mirror and another copy in my car, the two places I seem to be the most. I even keep one on my desk at work! It helps me to remember my purpose and my original goal. Recommit yourself to another day, another week. And take your authority over that caramel roll and tell you flesh to “SHUT UP!” Pray in the Spirit when you feel weak! He promises to help you!

Deuteronomy 31:6 in the Message Bible says it this way, “Be strong! Take courage! DON’T BE INTIMIDATED! Don’t give them a second thought because God, YOUR GOD, is striding AHEAD of you. He’s right there with you. He won’t let you down, He won’t leave you!”

Together through His strength and your CHOICE, you WILL be successful!!
