Breaking the Fast
By now, most of you may be planning your first, post-fast meal. Your hunger may even be starting to kick in too, due to your thoughts sending signals that the end is near. Be wise!
Remember to break your fast slowly. If you have been fasting with liquids only, start with juices (especially fresh squeezed) from fruits and /or vegetables. Start the first day by drinking 4 ounces of juice every 2 hours during the daytime hours. Then, on the next two days, try fresh juice at 8-10 ounces for breakfast, lunch and dinner. During these first few days, it is also advisable to start fresh fruit every couple of hours during the day. Many people find this refreshing and easy to digest in the stomach.
After the first couple of days, you can start to add softer foods such as boiled eggs, cooked veggies, mashed potatoes, cream soup, oatmeal or other cooked cereal and possibly a small vegetable salad. If you have been adding some of these to your fasting already, the progression will be different than this.
During fasting, your digestive tract has been slowed down for a while, so gradually introducing foods in small amounts is a good idea. The body is very protective of itself and has been conserving energy by using very few calories during this time. Therefore, your metabolism has slowed down considerably.
Two ways to fuel your metabolism up is to: 1) Eat small, frequent meals (small snacks). Consider eating every 3 ½ -4 hrs, and if going longer, remember to add a small snack between these meals. 2) Exercise ! Building muscle will create healthy tissue that burns more calories. Start slow and work up to 30 minutes per day/5 days a week to equal a recommended 150 minutes per week.

You are too near to the end to quit now. The benefits far outweigh the cost of fasting. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you through and to finish strong!!
