Fasting Principles || Day 8 : 21 Day Fast

21 DAY FAST || Day Eight : JAN. 11, 2016

Hello Families!

I have shared in a simple way with kids why we fast - first it comes down to what Job said. Job 23:12, I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.  Why we fast are principles we should continue to live for daily in our homes as families.

1.  God desires to get closer to us, so we should get closer to him: Jennifer Toledo, in her book Children and the Supernatural says: “There is no greater joy than to see a child encounter the reality and the beauty of the Living God. God is not distant. He is not hidden. It is His great pleasure and delight to reveal Himself to mankind.”  Parents, I hope that you set time every day, more important than media, food, etc. to have Godly encounters in your home.

  • Set a timer to pray first. Start small, and then you will find that the more you do it the more you will want to add to the timer.

  • Read the Bible together.

  • Share testimonies of what God has done in your family. Your kids need to hear the victories.

  • Also let your kids pray for you, and you pray for them. Share the needs you think your kids can handle and pray together for the victories.

2.  To get answers: God’s word is a great source of revelation. I know that when I’m fasting His word just seems clearer to me. Must be the toxins that I finally cleared out of my system.  Paul wrote, “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal” (2 Cor. 4:18). God cares about all our problems, but when we choose to set our mind on the eternal things first like: God’s favor, His love, His mercytithingfasting, etc.; the needs seem to fall into place. The answers come. Walking in the spirit is a great source of revelation!

3. For others: I always put my family at the top of my prayer list during fasting, not that I don’t pray for them other times, but this time last year God opened a door for me to minister to my family where it hasn’t been otherwise.  Children are very open to the spirit when it comes to others. Jennifer Toledo also writes a story about when she had kids write prophetic cards for someone who God showed them and they went to places to hand out these cards. One boy specifically got the name “Barb” and God downloaded a special message he wrote on the card. Later while at a Wal-Mart, asking every woman if they were Barb, he finally found her. She had a God encounter with just a card from a child.  We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf; be reconciled with God. (2 Cor. 5:20) Who are you praying for today to be reconciled? Make a list, and share them with your kids. Let God download into you and your family and wait for the open door to come.

Be Blessed,

Pastor Shannon
