Show that Old Flesh who is Boss || Day 6 : 21 Day Fast

21 DAY FAST || DAY 6 : JAN. 9, 2016

How goes it fellow fasters?  We have almost made a week!!  Yay!!!  The grumbling of the flesh should be starting to decrease by now.  Next week will be better!  Has anyone but me noticed how cold it always is when we fast??  Ah....thankful for hot water & lemon juice!!

You know, a scripture that has stood out to me this week is Galatians 5:17.  It says:

 "For the flesh rebels against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh...these are opposite (or contrary) to one another..."

Our flesh is ALWAYS opposed to the things of the Spirit.  It wants to please sulk, and feed on depression, depravity and self-pity.  It LOVES unspiritual, carnal things.  It doesn't want to fast.... or pray, or praise, or worship, or read the Word.  It doesn't even want to serve God much less sacrifice for Him!  Pleasing the flesh makes us unspiritual and full of prayerlessness and the inability to worship.  It makes us unable to please God and only leads to sin & death.

Ah...but a life in the Spirit...a life spent killing the flesh and keeping it under our spiritual feet....that kind of life pleases God and leads to joy and peace and fruitfulness.  That is what you are doing as you fast....showing that old flesh who is boss!!  And to overcome the flesh you must be filled with the Spirit.  The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Holiness, intercession, praise, and worship.  The desire of the Spirit is to glorify Jesus.  When we fast and combine it with prayer, praise, worship, and reading God's Word, we KILL the flesh.  We welcome and make room for the Holy Spirit.  And the best part....we please God!

"For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit."  (Romans 8:5)

You have a choice.  Every time you abstain from the donut or candy bar or computer or TV show and CHOOSE to read the Word, or pray, or sing and praise and worship, you are strengthening your spirit and starving that flesh!  These activities are edifying (or they build you up, encourage you).  This obedience will cause you to rise above and break free from the domination of the flesh!!

So....continue fasting!!  Pray more and worship more too!!
